Lent
I'm not a huge follower of Lent, nor do I normally give up anything for said arbitrary fasting period. But I am currently taking suggestions as to what to give up for 40 days. Any ideas?

You could give up phenylalanine, a protein found in some foods. You would experience, for 40 days, the plight of those individuals who have phenylketonuria (PKU). This is a genetic disorder whereby the individual does not produce the correct enzyme to metabolise phenylalanine due to the gene being faulty.
The presence of phenylalanine is marked on any food that contains it.

That actually should have been catabolism, not metabolism, to be more accurate.
Better than giving something up, give something away; and for a lenten idea every day, check out Love Life Live Lent. I've blogged about it here: Ash Wednesday: Introducing Love Life Live Lent.
