Why?
Why are females so loathe to turn off the lights of ladies toilets? Someone suggested that it's because they are reticent to go into a darkened room, even with the light switch next to the door. If this is the case, for the small minority of ladies reading this: please change this habit. It frustrates me. A lot.

Was the friend with the suggestions a counselling / pyschology student by any chance? I'm an advocator of 'lights off'... but I put it down to a hygiene issue - I wan't to spend as little time as possible touching toilet room surfaces, and will use elbows and pinkies to fight my way out of a particularly dirty washroom!

I always turn off the lights in small public restrooms, and even sometimes in the larger ones if I know for sure that there is no one left (perhaps even if there is, depending on what they've doe to piss (no pun intended) me off.
If we're turning to generalizations, stop pissing AROUND the toilet, put the seat down when you've finished (Alex especially, I have told that boy SO OFTEN now, I'm convinced it's just a pathetic way for him to flaunt his apparent 'masculinity'; "Look at me, standing up, no hands! Screw you and your vaginas!" (Not literally, of course.)), especially at night time when I risk being either blinded by the harshness of the light or falling down and breaking my hip. Stop, burping, farting, leering, beating and watching football.

Sorry - I don't actually know why I made such a generalisation. In my head, when writing it, I wasn't being like that at all. Having read it back, I realise the error of my ways.
And Ruth - yes, I have made considerations for people who are scared of the dark: turn the light on.

You make no sense.
I make perfect sense. Your issue with turning the lights off would be going into a dark room. Thus, you turn them on when you go in.
What about the going out the room part? Waste electricity after yelling at a friend who left his laptop playing songs while he played football?
